Youth Athlete Development
Welcome to the Young Athlete Development module of the USA Shooting Coaches Academy. My name is Carrie Cargill and I will be taking you through this course. The study of child development starts before a child is born. For the purpose of this course we will jump over the very early years to Middle Childhood (ages 6-11) because this is the age range where a child has developed mentally enough to know and follow safe practices, has the gross motor skills to hold a firearm and the fine motor skills needed to pull the trigger with control. We will also go over Early Adolescence (ages 12-14) and Late Adolescence (ages 13-19). After each age group I’ll give a brief overview of the milestones and give activities for on and off the range that can encourage further development.
