Training Plans

The basic coach course discussed the importance of planning a practice session and gave you a framework for planning a season. At this level, the focus is on yearly planning – combining the development of all technical, tactical, psychological and physical factors over the year so that optimal athletic performance can be achieved at the right moment.

This lesson is aimed at coaches who are working with committed but "developmental-level" athletes. The focus is on introducing key planning concepts and on providing a foundation for the training factors needed for high level competition in the years to come.

The goal of the training plan lesson is to present the fundamentals of yearly planning, introduce you to some new planning terminology, describe in detail the steps in yearly planning and provide tools and ideas so you can help implement a realistic training plan for each of your athletes.

Training plans provide a vehicle to organize time in order to meet all activity demands. The training plan is a yearly plan, monthly plan, and weekly plan of ideas and commitments.

Planning gives direction and purpose to athlete training; without a plan there is likely to be chaos at worst and inconsistent results at best. Effective coaches understand this and have always done some sort of planning.

This is an Advanced Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun Coach certification prerequisite course.
